Privacy Policy

Website Change Monitor lets you pick one piece of text on an ordinary HTTP(S) page and check locally whether that text has changed. The extension works without an account, without a server of our own, and without analytics.

What data is processed

To run a monitor you created, the extension processes:

• the address and title of the page you selected;
• a structural locator for the selected element: an anchor node, the path from it to the target, and the attributes the target is expected to have (no CSS selectors are used);
• the text of the selected element, its current baseline, and the most recent before/after pair;
• local timestamps, check results, and the technical state of pending checks;
• the permission you granted for the exact origin of the selected site.

During a background check the extension requests the saved address directly from your browser, receives the page response, and extracts only the text of the saved element in memory. The full page content is never stored.

What the data is used for

The data is used for one purpose only: to check the selected text for changes locally, show the state of each monitor, and raise a browser notification when a change is found.

The extension does not use your data for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, market research, or any other unrelated purpose.

Legal basis for processing

Where data protection law requires a stated legal basis, ours is the performance of the service you asked for. The extension processes the page and the text you selected, at your own initiative, in order to tell you when that text changes. There is no secondary purpose.

All of this processing happens locally, on your device. We do not receive the data, and we hold no copy of it, so there is nothing for us to process on any other basis.

Where the data is stored

Monitor state is stored on your device in chrome.storage.local. Short-lived state — the check queue, an in-progress selection, and the hand-off from a notification — is stored in chrome.storage.session. The extension does not use chrome.storage.sync and never sends this state to a developer server.

Sharing and disclosure

Website Change Monitor has no server of its own. It does not send addresses, locators, page content, baselines, or before/after values to the developer, to analytics services, or to any third party.

The only network request is an ordinary GET to the site you chose to monitor. That request is made with credentials: omit, so your cookies and sign-in state are not sent with it, and with cache: no-store.

The extension does not sell user data and does not give any person access to it. Exceptions required by applicable law do not grant the developer technical access to data held locally on your device.

Retention and deletion

Monitor data stays on your device until you delete the monitor or remove the extension. Deleting a monitor removes its stored state and the scheduled work that belongs to it. When the last monitor for a site is deleted, the extension also attempts to withdraw the optional permission for that origin. You can manage site permissions separately through your browser.

Removing the extension clears its local storage through the browser.

Your rights and control

Because everything stays on your device, you do not need to ask us for access, correction, or deletion. You already have all three:

• See what is stored. Each monitor shows the page it watches and the text it tracks, and the full previous and current values are available in the extension.
• Correct it. A monitor that watches the wrong thing can be deleted and created again on the right one.
• Delete it. Deleting a monitor removes its stored data. Removing the extension clears everything through your browser.
• Withdraw access. Site permissions are optional and granted one site at a time. You can revoke them whenever you like in your browser's extension settings.

The other side of this is worth stating plainly: we cannot access, export, correct, or delete your data on your behalf, because we never receive it. If a question about this policy comes up, write to the address below.

Security

The extension requests site access only as needed and only after an explicit action by you. All executable code and images ship inside the extension package; no remote code is loaded. Page HTML is parsed as data inside an isolated offscreen document, and site text is written into the interface using textContent.

HTTP sites are supported, but HTTP does not encrypt traffic between your browser and the site you chose. For sensitive information, prefer HTTPS pages.

Children

The extension is not directed at children. It has no sign-up, no profile, and no social features, and it does not collect age or account information.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, as defined by the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, or personal data from children under 16, as defined by the EU General Data Protection Regulation. Because the extension keeps everything on the device and transmits nothing to us, we hold no such data to disclose or delete.

Limited Use

Use of information received through Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used solely for the extension's single stated purpose. There is no personalised advertising, no sale of data, and no unrelated transfer.

Changes to this policy

If the way data is handled changes, this policy will be updated before the corresponding version of the extension is published.
